FAQs

  • Ithaca Tompkins International Airport is currently served by:

    • Delta Air Lines with nonstop flights to New York City (JFK)

    • United Airlines with nonstop flights to Washington Dulles (IAD)

Both airports provide convenient connections to destinations across the U.S. and around the world.

  • Airport Terminal Hours: 3:30 am – 12:00 am. The airport passenger terminal is open to the public at approximately 3:30 AM and closes shortly after the last arriving flight, usually around midnight.

Airport Hours: The airport runway is open 24 hours a day, but flights arriving overnight should call ahead to verify available services.

Taughannock Aviation Services Hours: 6:00 am – 10:00 pm. Call (607) 257-7500 for late fly-ins.

Recommended Arrival Time: Airlines recommend that passengers arrive at least 90 minutes prior to their departure time to be able to check in and complete the security screening process for an on-time departure.

For early morning flights, typically between 5:30 and 7:00 AM, passengers can arrive starting at 3:30 AM when the terminal opens.

For more information, please contact your airline.

  • Airlines recommend that passengers arrive at least 90 minutes prior to their departure time to be able to check in and complete the security screening process for an on-time departure. It is important to allow extra time when there is a high volume of passengers and baggage being processed so that everyone can get through the screening process in a timely manner to avoid flight delays. If you are checking a bag, please arrive at least 60 minutes before your flight, airline baggage check ends 45 minutes before departure. Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure.

For early morning flights passengers can arrive starting at 3:30 AM when the terminal opens.

For more information, please contact your airline.

  • Contact your airline for information on their policy regarding flight delays and cancellations.

  • If you’ve ever asked yourself “If my flight is delayed should I still go to the airport on time?”, the answer is a big yes.

Arriving late to the airport after you learn of your flight delay is not advisable, irrespective of the expected length of the delay. Despite flight delays, check-in times and deadlines generally stay the same. This is because of the unpredictable nature of delays, which could be reduced or even reversed. Maintaining the original check-in time also helps prevent logistical issues and confusion.

  • TSA security screening typically opens about 90 minutes before your scheduled departure. Because ITH has a limited number of daily departures, the checkpoint is not open 24 hours.

If your flight is delayed, please note that TSA may not remain open for the full duration of the delay—especially if other flights have already departed. For this reason, we recommend that all travelers arrive around their flight’s originally scheduled departure time, even if the airline shows a delay. This ensures you can clear security and be ready when boarding begins. Flight delays can sometimes be reversed, and we’d hate for you to miss your flight due to a schedule change or TSA closure.

  • The responsibility for handling baggage-related issues lies with the airlines operating at ITH. Each airline is responsible for managing and ensuring the safe delivery of checked and carry-on baggage for their passengers.

If you encounter any issues with your baggage, such as delays, damage, or loss, we recommend reaching out directly to the airline you traveled with. They have dedicated staff and procedures in place to assist you in resolving any baggage-related concerns.

    Delta Baggage Service: 1-800-325-8224

    United Baggage Service: 1-800-335-2247

We do recommend that if you have the ability to come and speak with an airline representative here at the airport they are best equipped to help you by checking their secured baggage area, they are not staffed as often as we would like, but if you come around the arrival or departure of any flight you can find airline staff here to assist you.

  • Yes, most airlines allow you to check in online before your flight via their respective apps/website. This is a convenient option, especially if you are traveling with carry-on luggage only. However, if you have checked baggage, it will still need to be processed at the airline’s check-in desk (airline baggage check ends 45 minutes before departure). Additionally, the airlines at ITH offer self-service kiosks for quick and easy check-in.

  • Beginning May 7, 2025, every traveler must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or other acceptable forms of identification, such as a valid passport or U.S. military ID, to fly within the U.S. Review the complete list of acceptable identification.

Passengers who present a state-issued identification that is not REAL ID compliant and who do not have another acceptable alternative (e.g., passport) can expect to face delays, additional screening and the possibility of not being permitted into the security checkpoint.

More information on REAL ID can be found at this link TSA.gov/real-id.

  • We understand that losing something during travel can be a frustrating experience. We do our best to assist passengers in locating and retrieving lost items whenever possible.

You can consider booking a taxi, ride-sharing service, or shuttle service to avoid any inconvenience and to make your journey smoother. Rental Car companies close at 6pm, be sure to pre-arrange after-hours pick up with your agency.

Keep in mind that some transportation options might require advance booking, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead.

  • Please note that it is important to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations when operating a drone. Prior to flying, it is essential to obtain the necessary approvals and permissions to ensure the safety of the airspace and the surrounding community.

Your best bet is to look at LAANC first, then if that doesn’t work apply for airspace authorization using the FAA Drone Zone portal.

Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC)
ITH is a LAANC-enabled airport. Recreational and Certificated Drone Pilots can use a LAANC approved desktop or phone app that automates the application and approval process for, near-real-time, airspace authorizations. You can find more information on LAANC here: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/laanc

    FAA Drone Zone
The FAA can provide comprehensive information regarding drone regulations, airspace restrictions, and any necessary permits or authorizations required for flying in the designated area. You can find more information on the FAA Drone Zone here: https://faadronezone-access.faa.gov/
