American Airlines comes to Ithaca-Tompkins Regional Airport

Behind the Scenes: Mike Hall
While he has been a part of the Ithaca-Tompkins Regional Airport family since 2014, it does not seem that way. As he arrives for work each day as the manager of the Ithaca-Tompkins Regional Airport, he greets everyone he sees with a friendly hello. Despite being responsible for all facets of airport operations, Mike always has the time to talk, helping to maintain a positive work environment at the airport.

Tommy Come Home’ is a project of the Ithaca Aviation Heritage Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to the preservation of the rich aviation heritage of the Ithaca area.
2015 Runway 5k
On Sunday, June 21st, 2015 we held our first Runway 5k. We had 277 participants. A portion of the race registration proceeds will be donated to the SPCA of Tompkins County.
Wings, Wheels, and Runners at Ithaca Airport Day
The popular Airport Day and Father’s Day Breakfast has expanded this year to include the first 5k on the runway. Joining forces on Sunday, June 21, 2015, the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport, Taughannock Aviation, and East Hill Flying Club have put together a roster of activities for the whole family.
Michael Hall Appointed Interim Airport Manager
The Legislature, by unanimous vote, confirmed County Administrator Joe Mareane’s appointment of Michael Hall as Interim Manager of Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport. (Legislators Mike Sigler and Nathan Shinagawa were excused.) Mr. Hall will serve as Interim Airport Manager following the retirement of Airport Manager Bob Nicholas July 31, after 25 years of distinguished service.
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport Manager Robert Nicholas to Retire
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport Manager (ITRA) Robert Nicholas announced this month that he will retire as manager of the airport following 25 years of service. Born in Oxfordshire, England, you’ve probably heard his distinctive accent from his many radio ads* for the airport over the years. He became an American citizen in 1990. Nicholas is only the third airport manager since Tompkins County began its ownership of ITRA in 1956.
ITH Launches “Are You With Us?” Marketing Campaign
The Ithaca Tompkins Regional airport launched a new marketing campaign that invites the business and leisure travel community to make flying out of ITH the first choice when making travel plans. This is part of efforts to keep planes full and to position ITH for new service and lower rates in the long term.
Air Traffic Control Manager Recognized
Doug Lewis, manager of the Air Traffic Control Tower in Ithaca, was today presented with the 2013 “Manager of the Year” award in a special ceremony at the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport.
Ithaca Flight School Receives National Recognition
Ithaca’s East Hill Flying Club just announced that it was one of only six flight schools in the country to receive the 2012 Flight Training Excellence Award from the 400,000-member Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). Established sixty years ago, the club is based at the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport.
Record Passenger Numbers Continue for 2011
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport’s total passenger count for 2011 calendar year reached 242,493, topping 2010 totals just slightly, but still breaking records. Total enplanements topped 121,000 for the second year running. While there were 55 passengers less than the record 2010 enplanement total, more deplaning passengers were recorded, boosting total numbers. Overall, the airport handled more arriving and departing passengers than at any other time in its history. Overall load factors, or the percentage of seats filled on flights, were reported to be up slightly to 76.6% from 76.2% in 2010.
Airport Sustainable Master Plan Receives National “Airports Going Green” Award
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is being recognized with a prestigious national award for its Sustainable Master Plan. The Plan has been chosen as a recipient of the 2011 “Airports Going Green” (ASG) award, to be presented October 31, at the fourth annual Airports Going Green Conference in Chicago, IL.
Airport Reaches Record Passenger Numbers
A record 121,334 passengers departed the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport this year, more than 11% over 2010 figures and an all time airport record. The second highest year for enplaned passengers dates back to 1990 with 114,154 getting on commercial service flights. What’s more, load factors, or the percentage of seats filled on flights was reported to be 70.7 % whereas 2009 figures show only 66.4%.
Ithaca’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan Gains National Attention
Airport Manager Robert Nicholas was recently asked to address the “Airports Going Green” Conference that was held November 15 through 17 at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Chicago’s “Miracle Mile.”

U.S. Rep. Michael A. Arcuri (NY-24) joined Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport Manager Bob Nicholas today to announce $418,042 in funding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport to acquire snow removal equipment.
